―57―JournalofChubuUniversityEducationNo.18(2018)EducationalEffectsofBeingaMemberoftheOrganizationCommitteeofaUniversity-levelParentingSeminaronNursingStudentsYAMASHITAMegumi*1,OKAKURAMisaki*2,HASHIMOTOTaeko*3andYOKOTENaomi*4*1SeniorAssistantProfessor,DepartmentofNursing,CollegeofLifeandHealth,ChubuUniversity*2ResearchAssociate,CenterforNursingPracticumSupport,ChubuUniversity*3AssistantProfessor,CenterforNursingPracticumSupport,ChubuUniversity*4AssociateProfessor,DepartmentofNursing,CollegeofLifeandHealth,ChubuUniversityAbstractTheDepartmentofHealthNursingincludesthefieldofmaternitynursing,andaseriesoffourchildcareseminarsforinfantsandtheirmothersisconductedasapartofourcommunitychildcaresupportprogram.Studentsareinvolvedintheorganizationoftheseseminars,sothattheirparticipationfurtherenhancestheirgrowthanddevelopment.Here,weexaminedtheeducationaleffectoftheirparticipationinorganizingtheseseminars.Thesubjectswere11femalestudentsintheirfourthyearattheDepartmentofHealthNursingwhoparticipatedintheorganizationoftheseminars.Groupinterviews(3-4subjectsineachgroup)wereconductedaftertheconclusionoftheseminarstodeterminethelearningsandperceptionsofthestudents.Theirresponseswereanalyzedusingaqualitativeintegrationmethod(theKJmethod).Theresultsindicatedthatthestudentsgainedanunderstandingofbothmaternalandinfantgrowthandknowledgeregardingthedevelopmentofmother-childrelationshipbycomparingthebehaviorandotheraspectsofthemothersandinfantsbetweenclinicaltrainingandduringtheseminars.Additionally,thestudentsperceivedtheneedforaplacewhereinmotherscanexperienceachangefromtheirnormalroutineandwheretheycanshareandexchangeinformationwithothermothersalongwithaneedforcontinuoussupportafterhospitaldischarge.Theexperienceofservingasaseminarstaffmemberallowedthenursingstudentstogainaclearperspectiveregardingthepost-dischargedailylifeofmothersandinfantsaswellastheirgrowth.Theygainedadifferentunderstandingoftheneedforcontinuouschildcaresupport;moreover,thestudentsgotanopportunitytoexperienceadifferentstyleofeducationthatfacilitatedpersonalgrowth.Keywordsnursingstudents,learningandgrowthtogether,parentingsupport,seminaradministration,qualitativeintegrationmethod(theKJmethod)
