―16―JournalofChubuUniversityEducationNo.18(2018)SpeakingandListeningInstructionsUtilizingQuizletOHKADOMasayuki**Professor,GlobalEducationCenter,LanguageProgram,ChubuUniversityAbstractTheidealgoalofstudyingaforeignlanguageisarguablytoestablishthedirectbondbetweenthoughtandexpressionsandbecomeabletocommunicatewiththelanguagewithouttheinterventionofthespeaker'snativelanguage.Thisgoalisnotalwayseasytoachieve,especiallyincaseswherethelinguisticdistancebetweenthespeaker'slanguageandthetargetlanguageheorshestudiesisgreatlikeinthecaseofJapanesespeakersstudyingEnglishorviceversa.Oneoftheespeciallyproblematicfeaturesinthesecasesisthemirror-imageorderingrelationsofthetwolanguages,andtocleartheobstacle,variousmethodologieshavetraditionallybeenproposedandutilized.ThispaperclaimsthattheQuizletapplication,amobileandweb-basedstudyapplication,canbeaveryusefultooltoassiststudentstoputintopracticetheseage-oldmethodsofstudyingaforeignlanguagewhoselinguisticdistanceisgreatfromstudents'nativelanguage,byreportingtheuseoftheapplicationinEnglishclassesforJapanesespeakers.KeywordsEnglishEducation,SpeakingInstructions,ListeningInstructions,Quizlet
