―168―JournalofChubuUniversityEducationNo.17(2017)UtilizationoftheICNFrameworkofCompetenciesfortheGeneralistNurseinJapanKIMURAYumiko*1,HAYASERyo*2andMIKAMIRetsu*3*1ResearchAssociate,CenterforNursingPracticum,ChubuUniversity*2Lecturer,DepartmentofNursing,CollegeofLifeandHealthSciences,ChubuUniversity*3Professor,DepartmentofNursing,CollegeofLifeandHealthSciences,ChubuUniversityAbstractThisstudyinvestigatedtheuseoftheInternationalCouncilofNurses(ICN)frameworkofCompetenciesfortheGeneralistNurse(ICNframework)inJapan.UsingtheICNframework(98items,3-pointscale),asurveywasconductedamong20generalistnursesfromfivehospitalswhowererecommendedasrolemodels,anddataontheexecutionstatusofeachoftheitemsforallthesubjectswereobtained.Manyofthesubjectsresponded"always/sometimesdo"for92items.Theresultssuggestthatthebehavioroftheexpert-generalistnurses,whowererecommended,canberegardedasconformingwiththecompetencystandardoftheICNframework,andthemoretheytookthe"alwaysdo"approach,theclosertheyweretobeingconsideredashavingthecompetencyofanexpert-generalistnurse.Thesixitemsthat30%ofthesubjectsrespondedas"neverdo"were:"understandthepriorityofcareduringwar/naturaldisasters","understanddisastermeasures","understandhealthandmedicaltechnologydevelopment","promoteparticipationinpolicyandprogramplanning","contributetothedevelopmentofprofessionalnursingpractice",and"utilizesurveysfornursingenhancement."Theresultssuggestthatenhancementofcontinuingeducationregardingtheseitemsisnecessary.Keywordsgeneralistnurse,expert,career,theICNFrameworkofCompetenciesfortheGeneralistNurse
