―168―JournalofChubuUniversityEducationNo.17（2017）UtilizationoftheICNFrameworkofCompetenciesfortheGeneralistNurseinJapanKIMURAYumiko＊1,HAYASERyo＊2andMIKAMIRetsu＊3＊1ResearchAssociate,CenterforNursingPracticum,ChubuUniversity＊2Lecturer,DepartmentofNursing,CollegeofLifeandHealthSciences,ChubuUniversity＊3Professor,DepartmentofNursing,CollegeofLifeandHealthSciences,ChubuUniversityAbstractThisstudyinvestigatedtheuseoftheInternationalCouncilofNurses（ICN）frameworkofCompetenciesfortheGeneralistNurse（ICNframework）inJapan.UsingtheICNframework（98items,3-pointscale）,asurveywasconductedamong20generalistnursesfromfivehospitalswhowererecommendedasrolemodels,anddataontheexecutionstatusofeachoftheitemsforallthesubjectswereobtained.Manyofthesubjectsresponded"always/sometimesdo"for92items.Theresultssuggestthatthebehavioroftheexpert-generalistnurses,whowererecommended,canberegardedasconformingwiththecompetencystandardoftheICNframework,andthemoretheytookthe"alwaysdo"approach,theclosertheyweretobeingconsideredashavingthecompetencyofanexpert-generalistnurse.Thesixitemsthat30%ofthesubjectsrespondedas"neverdo"were:"understandthepriorityofcareduringwar/naturaldisasters","understanddisastermeasures","understandhealthandmedicaltechnologydevelopment","promoteparticipationinpolicyandprogramplanning","contributetothedevelopmentofprofessionalnursingpractice",and"utilizesurveysfornursingenhancement."Theresultssuggestthatenhancementofcontinuingeducationregardingtheseitemsisnecessary.Keywordsgeneralistnurse,expert,career,theICNFrameworkofCompetenciesfortheGeneralistNurse
